Summary: Every day, she woke up feeling like she had forgotten something incredibly important...

For MJ Watson, it was the little things that clued her in that something was very wrong with her life. Her eyes would fall upon a piece of jewelry, or a restaurant along the street, and her mind would call back to a memory that somehow wasn't there. Most of the time, it really didn't bother her. After all, she had a great life. A job she loved, no shortage of interested guys, and a news media that seemed to follow her every move. But it was in the quiet moments, when no one was around, that those little things would bother her, and she would find herself playing with her phone, wondering if she should dial that number...

"Ms. Watson?"

MJ spun around at the sound of her assistant's voice. "Oh! Am I needed out there?"

"Not yet. You're on in 15. I just wanted to let you know I had booked the tickets to New York. For Fashion Week?"

"New York? Oh. Right! It slipped my mind."

"It's only the biggest fashion event of the year." Her assistant giggled. "Anyway, just like you requested - first class, window seat, and the vegetarian meal option."

"Thanks." MJ nodded. "I should get ready to go on."

As her assistant left to go check in on the other models, MJ found herself with her phone in her hand again, fingering the "redial" button and wondering if she could press it. After all...what did she have to lose?

Peter Parker figured that he should have learned by now. If you've absolutely got to be somewhere on the hour, leave at least two hours to swing across time, because Spider-man is definitely going to run into a supervillain or seven along the way.

"Really, Gibbon? How about we just skip the prolonged fight scene and you surrender to those nice cops over there? If you hurry, you might be checked in by lunchtime. I hear the jail is serving salisbury steak today."

Gibbon's angry ranting was stopped by a thick coating of web-fluid over his mouth, and Peter soon deposited the hapless criminal by a police car and swung off before they started shooting at him. Now he just had to hope there weren't any more low-rent villains out there, because his early start was now a very late one!

Swinging into the back alley of the coffee shop, Peter stripped off his uniform. Dressed in civilian clothes, he ran in the front door.

"I guess some things never change, right, Tiger?"

Peter spun around to see MJ, already holding a Frappucino, waving to him from the table by the window. God, she was even more gorgeous than he remembered from their brief encounter at Aunt May's wedding. When she'd called him out of the blue, telling him that she would be in town for Fashion Week, he hadn't been sure how to react. The last few times they had been together, it had been...rocky, to say the least, but there was no denying that the chemistry had never disappeared.

"You know me, always running late." Peter grinned. "It was a zoo out there."

"I bet." MJ smiled knowingly, looking away. If she knew something, she wasn't giving it away.

"So how's the fashion world treating you? It seems like I can't go fifteen minutes without seeing you on a magazine cover!"

"It's been...fast-paced." MJ grinned. "Sometimes I can't believe it's all happening so quickly. I've been modeling a long time, but traveling around the world, taking part in the biggest fashion shows - it's on a whole different level."

"I know this was always your dream. I'm really happy for you."

"Well, it was one dream." MJ looked away again. "Peter, promise me you won't think I'm crazy if I tell you something?"

"We were together for years, MJ. I heard you talk in your sleep about singing chinchillas. That train's long past." Peter laughed. "Seriously, of course. What's on your mind?"

"These last few months...have you felt like something's off? Something you can't put your finger on, but it's always there? I guess the best way to describe it is like you know you're forgetting something, but you can't remember what it is. You just know it's incredibly important, and you need to remember it now. It comes and goes, but it's always there, in the back of my mind. Like something's been deleted, I guess."

Peter knew exactly what MJ was referring to, and it sort of scared him just how close the description was to what he had been experiencing. "Sometimes, yeah. I guess I haven't really had time to think about it, but something's strange. I've just been so busy, with Aunt May's wedding, Flash coming back from the war, job issues, I haven't tried to figure it out."

"For a while, I thought I was going crazy. This is kind of a relief. But at the same time...There's something really wrong, isn't there? With so many cosmic forces around the world, all of reality can change around us and we wouldn't even notice it. It's scary."

"I know. Believe me, I'm freaked out too." Peter looked around. He wished he knew more than MJ did, considering his connections to the superhero world, but whatever this strange effect was, it was way out of Spider-man's paygrade. "But at least we know we're not alone here, right? Whatever this is, we can figure it out together. How long are you in town for?"

"It's Fashion Week, but then I don't have any engagements until Milan in June. I can stick around as long as I need to. Do you think..."

"I know some people. You'd be surprised how many sorcerers and super-geniuses come through the Bugle's halls over the years. If something's been done to us, they'll figure it out."

"As crazy as it is, I'm glad I came back here. Things were ugly the last time we talked, but...I really missed you, Peter."

"I missed you too, MJ. And who knows what actually happened there? Maybe some cosmic tyrant punched a wall of time and space, and we're supposed to be happily married."

MJ laughed. "Yeah, wouldn't that be something."

Hesitantly, Peter leaned in and kissed MJ, waiting to see how she reacted. She kissed him back, the first kiss they had shared in a long time. And just like that, the fog that had been hanging over their minds for the longest time seemed to lift just the tiniest bit.

That was great, I really enjoyed this. It would be nice to see them hang out more and maybe they'd get make together. In July, we'll get to see some of our questions answered from One More Day and I hope they are answers we fans like.

Thanks again.

Glad you liked it! This is my first time writing 616 Spider-man, so I'm glad you think it went well. :)

I'm looking forward to that arc.
